My theme for 2013: Believe

Gretchen Rubin, author of The Happiness Project, chooses a theme for the new year — one word (give or take) that encapsulates her goals and desires. This year, her theme is Bigger:

My theme? Bigger. We’re so often encouraged to pursue simplicity; I fight my urge to simplify, to keep things small and manageable, to turn down opportunities. “Bigger” challenges me to think big, to tolerate complications and failure and messiness, to expect more from myself. I want to choose the bigger life.

This is exactly what’s needed in my life, too. I’m one of the few people I know that doesn’t need to say No more — I need to say Yes more! Over time I’ve created a world that is ordered and manageable, and it’s high time to swing for the fences again. In order to truly dream bigger, however, I must first infuse my thinking with audacity and hope.

So, for 2013, my theme is Believe. Every day I will remind myself to believe in possibility, change, and, most of all, myself!
